Beach Bums - Part 1

We couldn't let MawMaw and PawPaw enjoy the beach all by themselves last week, so we decided to join them.

Loaded up and ready to hit the road!
It was our first beach trip as family, and it was so much fun! We left Thursday morning after Dustin got off work.  William did pretty good on the ride down.  He's been getting car sick here lately so I was thrilled we made it to Destin without him getting sick all over the car. =) Dustin was not so lucky though. Once we made it to the condo and unloaded everything, we all decided to go eat dinner.  As we were being seated at the restaurant, Will got sick all over Dustin.  Bless him!  So we headed back to the condo to call it a night!

Will and I did our walk/run in the mornings, and it was so pleasant.  That was one of my favorite parts of the trip.  Will loves being strolled around, and I enjoy a little me time with my ipod.

As crazy as it sounds, I didn't really plan for us to spend much time at the beach.  Neither Dustin nor I are big beach people.  I hate the sand.  Like, I seriously detest the sand, but I wanted Will to experience it. I didn't really anticipate William liking and enjoying the sand and salty water quite like he did. He loved the water running over feet and the sand was apparently very tasty because he enjoyed eating it.  We attempted to build sandcastles, but Will was more interested in flirting with every lady on the beach.  It seemed that Dustin and I chased him all over that beach for what seemed like hours, but was only about an hour.  Will started getting tired and rubbing his eyes and you guessed it, sand in the eyes is not a fun combination.  Overall though, the beach was a great time.  Its ridicously crazy how having a child will make you love the things (sand) that you would normally hate!

The pool is where we spent most of the time.  Will spent most of the time climbing up and down the steps to the pool.  The boy loves to climb some steps.  He's doing really well with the water.  He knows what "splash" is and will "splash" you on command.  He also enjoys blowing bubbles in the water and thinks its quite hilarous.  We are still working on kicking in the water though.  He hasn't got that one down yet.

This trip to the beach was very special because I got to share it with my mom and dad.  We made some memories that I will cherish forever.

Happy 1st Birthday

Will's birthday party was simple.  I made a promise to myself that I would enjoy this day and not stress about it.  It was perfect.  We had family and a few friends there to celebrate Will's first birthday.  It was so much fun!

We served hot dogs, chips, cheese puff, cake, and Koolaide.  I had ice cream but forgot to take it out of the freezer for everyone.  I remembered the ice cream later that night and couldn't help but laugh.  I relax for once...and I forget to bring the ice cream out for everyone! =)

Our present to William was his Cozy Truck.  William got tons of awesome presents for his birthday. Our families and friends spoiled our baby boy rotten on his birthday!
Happy Birthday William

Two years later, I finally got to use my hotdog roller!

Answered Prayers

William's EEG showed no abnormal activity. We are thrilled!!

At this point we honestly don't have a 100% positive answer to explain what happened, BUT we do have labs, a catscan, and an EEG that show we have a healthy baby boy.

Dr Deitline, Dustin, and I are choosing to believe that William experienced "nursemaid elbow". If it ever happens again, we now know what we are supposed to do to pop it back in place and ease the pain.

Thank you for all your prayers, Facebook messages, texts, and emails. They have meant the world to us this week.

It's been such a long couple of days around our house. No one wanted an answer more than me and waiting for these results have been emotionally exhausting.

Now I can finally focus on Will's 1st birthday on Saturday! I finally found some time to order his cake today, but that's about all the plans I have right now, but I'm refusing to stress about it.

I've been reminded today that in life we have to put everything in perspective and realize what is truly important in life.

William Michael Tucker is one of the greatest blessings we have ever received. I praise God for answering our prayers!

Here We Go!

They are prepping Will for the EEG now. We aren't allowed in the room with him, but so far all the nurses have been great with him. They showed us everything they will do and assured us that this test is painless. The test should take close to 45 mins to an hour.

Unfortunately we will not have the results today like we thought. We should have results no later then next Friday though.

And in William fashion, he still hasn't met a stranger. The nurses are all impressed with his size, strength, and charm.

Thank you all so much for the prayers. They are working!! Dustin and I really have a peace about the situation, and I know it's because of all the prayers.

(BTW: Will really enjoyed his wagon ride while we were waiting to check in! I'll post pictures of him soon.)

Calling All Prayer Warriors

About 30 minutes after I laid William down to sleep last night, I heard the most awful sound come out of the monitor.  I jumped up and ran to Will's room.  Will was laying on his stomach with his legs stretched out trying to raise his head.  It appeared that he couldn't move at all.  He was screaming like I've never heard him before.  When I reached down to pick him up, I realized that  he was totally stiff.  I struggled trying to pick him up and to get him turned around in my arms.  When I finally got him turned around, his back was completely arched, his head was turned to side and he was holding his arm in weird twisted back way.  He was screaming and stiff as a rock.

I yelled for Dustin, and he came running.  He grabbed William from me and was trying to soothe Will, but nothing was working.  When Dustin was holding him, I kept saying, "His arm...His arm...Something is wrong with his arm!"

After several minutes of us both feeling completely helpless, Will finally stopped screaming.  He then became like a zombie.  He was in a blank stare.  Dustin tried to rock him as I was just watching in totally fear of what we had just witnessed.  After a minute or two of rocking Will he started screaming again and moving around really weird, stiffening up, and again holding his arm out to side all weird.

Off to the ER we went.  On the ride to the ER Will was in a daze.  He wouldn't focus on me or act anything like his normal self.

At GRMC they ran a catscan, labs, and made a chest xray.  Everything was clear. PRAISE THE LORD!

We followed up with our doctor today at Pediatrics East.  She spent a great deal of time with us and William. She listened to everything, asked questions, and really encouraged us to think about all the details of the "episode".

Our doctor explained that most of the symptoms Will experienced are common for certain types of seizures.  However the fact the Will was screaming during the episode is very uncommon.  She said that most children will gurgle or make random noises, but screaming is not normal.  She also thought it was very odd the labs and catscan were all clear.  (It's a great sign that they were clear, but she explained that normally someone that has seizures will have abnormal labs or the catscan will show something on the brain.)  She also explained that because of our genetic history (my father, Will's pawpaw,  has a certain type of seizures) seizures could be something that William will experience.

William is scheduled to have an EEG at Children's Hospital tomorrow at 1:00.  Through this test we will be able to determine if what Will experienced was a seizure or something else.

We are praying that it is "something else".  The doctor explained that Will may have experienced "Nursemaid's Elbow" (subluxation of radial head).  From what we understand this is when a ligament in the arm (elbow or forearm) is out of place.  It's very painful.  However children grow out of this after the age of 4.

The doctor explained that Will may have dislocated it in his sleep when he was moving around or something.  She said the pain would have easily caused him to scream and stiffen up.

Just please pray....

We know that GOD IS IN CONTROL!
